Q &A
With
Gary Conway

Ray Dutczak: How did you get the role of Steve Burton on Land Of The Giants?
Gary Conway: Irwin Allen had seen me in a pilot in which I had the lead. It was for ABC and called Attack. It was supposed to take the place of a very popular series Combat, but in the Pacific front. The Vietnam war had flared up and ABC had second thoughts about it after it was made.

RD: What was it like working with Irwin Allen?
CG: That is a complicated subject.

RD:  Which season of Land Of The Giants do you like better 1 or 2.
CG: I have no favorite.

RD:  The episode the Crash was one of the best LOTG episodes made, any memories from that episode?
CG: It was the first, of course, and also a pilot of sorts. More time was spent and Irwin Allen directed.

RD:  Do you have a favorite director from LOTG?
CG: I liked them all for various reasons.

RD:  What was Kurt Kasznar like?
CG: He was wonderful and interesting, with a mischievous sense of humor.

RD:  What are some of your favorite episodes? Can you share a few memories?
CG: A Small War. Do I have that right? It had a satirical component, like Gulliver's Travels. I felt that the series should have had more weighty episodes like that one.

RD:  Do you keep in touch with the LOTG cast anymore.
CG: Yes, all of them.

RD:  Any mishaps with any of the stunts the cast did?
CG: I got two cracked ribs in one episode, two different scenes. I can't believe the stunts that we did -- we were very game but rather foolish.

RD:  Land Of The Giants is now out on DVD, any thoughts?
CG: It was long overdue. Unfortunately, the people who produced the DVDs never had any of the cast comment on the production. That is a major oversight.

RD:  What are some of your current projects?
CG: I wrote and directed a film called Woman's Story -- it will soon be out in theatrical distribution. I have a web site on the film www.womansstory.com
